The Winsley Weaver – Deputy Editor Required

Deputy Editor Wanted for the Winsley Weaver

This role will replace that of “Desk Top Publisher”.

For the last 5 years The Weaver has been published by volunteers who could use professional desk-top publishing software. As the current volunteer has had to withdraw, it has been agreed that the printer will create the templates and drop in the articles and features we send to create the finished edition.

The editor now urgently needs a deputy to share the work and provide continuity.

The role of the deputy-editor will be negotiated with the editor to share the following:

Receiving and acknowledging articles etc. from contributors.

Checking articles for length, spelling, punctuation, grammar etc. and correcting as necessary.
Sending reminders to regular contributors.

Keeping each month’s copy and on the agreed date sending electronically to the printer.
Looking out for interesting and lively copy, when possible.

With some experience it is hoped that the deputy would be able to step in and edit an edition if the editor was ill, away, or otherwise unable to do so.

The time required each month is difficult to predict but might be equivalent to one and a half days, spread over a week, becoming less with experience. A dedicated e-mail address is established.

Key Requirements

  • Access to a PC with Broadband Access and ability to use email and receive and store attachments.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word.
  • Ability to handle pictures and graphics in jpeg format.
  • Ability to organise and file documents electronically.
