Neighbourhood Watch

WINSLEY NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH — Thursday 12th May 2016

There are two items this time, the first of which is particularly urgent.

A.) CAR BREAK-IN IN BROOMGROUND

On Tuesday night two cars on the same drive were broken into in Broomground. The insides of both vehicles were left in a mess, but nothing was stolen. It is believed that the thieves were probably looking for change for parking which some people leave handy in their car.

May I make three (obvious) points:

1. Do keep your car(s) in the garage if possible

2. Ensure that cars are locked and windows closed

3. Do not leave money or other valuables in the car

B.) Security at holiday time

May I, especially at this time of year, remind everybody of the “five golden rules” when people are away on holiday:

1. Please be willing to have a neighbour’s key and contact details.

2. Do keep a careful watch on the empty property.

3. Put out and take in dustbins.

4. Take in deliveries, eg if left on the doorstep.

5. Push any circulars, etc. through the door and collect up any conspicuous post.

We can then leave for our holidays with peace of mind.

As I always say when offering this advice, I feel that these “rules” constitute the very essence of Neighbourhood Watch.
