WINSLEY NW — Wednesday 1st August 2018

From Wiltshire Police – Burglary Prevention Advice

* Most burglaries are opportunistic

* Always close and lock doors and windows when you go out – even if for a short time – and when you go to bed at night. Do not forget doors into garages and conservatories

*Make sure locks and security measures comply with insurance requirements

* Keep keys, including shed and car keys, in a place where they are not visible to anyone looking in. Do not leave keys in the door, and never hide a spare key outside

* Keep valuables hidden and not visible from windows

* Window locks and visible burglar alarms can act as a deterrent to criminals

* Never leave packaging from new goods visible with general rubbish. Criminals may see it and target your property

*Draw curtains in the evening, and leave lights on a timer switch if you are going out

* Never keep large amounts of cash in the house

*Consider keeping expensive jewellery, house deeds and other important items in a home safe, anchored to the brick work. As an alternative, when you are going away, place expensive jewellery, etc, in the loft

You can register valuable items free of charge with www.immobilise.com, a property register that helps police identify property and catch criminals.

There are two other NW points:

 1 –  A suspect has caused damage to a vehicle on the Winsley bypass by attempting to force off the fuel cap with a tool of some sort.

2 – Following the theft from a property in Cottles Lane just over two weeks ago, other reports have reached me of men in vans behaving suspiciously in and around the village. Please be vigilant, and please report any such behaviour either to me or directly to the Police via 101, or 999 in an emergency.
